What is an economizer? Where to use?

An economizer is a device that saves energy by recovering the heat in the waste gas resulting from the combustion process of a heating system or boiler. Essentially, it heats the feed water or air inlet of the boiler using the heat in the flue gas. In this way, the fuel consumption of the boiler is reduced and energy efficiency is increased.

Economizers are often used in industrial plants, power plants, boiler systems and large buildings (e.g. hospitals, hotels, schools). They are also commonly seen in ship and marine applications.

Some areas where economizers are commonly used include:

Industrial Facilities: Economizers are frequently used alongside boiler systems in industrial facilities such as chemical plants, refineries, and steel factories. Since these facilities require large amounts of heat energy, the use of economizers is important.

Power Plants: In thermal power plants (such as coal, natural gas, or oil-fired power plants), economizers are used to recover the heat in the waste gas. This increases energy efficiency in electricity generation.

Commissary and Residential Buildings: Economizers can be used in heating systems in large buildings such as large hotels, hospitals, shopping malls. This can reduce energy costs and reduce environmental impact.

Ships: In maritime transportation, economizers are frequently used in ship boiler systems. This can reduce operational costs by reducing ships’ fuel consumption.

Economizers play an important role in improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact and are widely used in many industrial and commercial applications.
